Railway Stations Safety Audit
The Safecity Policy Project for Railway Stations in Mumbai was led by our Policy and Legal Officer, Vandita Morarka along with a team of interns and volunteers. This stemmed from the reports of harassment at railway stations in Mumbai that came up in our interactions with individuals at workshops, from our volunteers and on our crowdmap. It was a phased project that audited three railway stations to understand the nature of sexual harassment and the ways in which we can address it. The design was of a two-part assessment, one where the Safecity team audited the station on several parameters that aid and impede safety and the other where our team engaged with persons at the stations to gauge their experiences of sexual harassment to be able to formulate effective solutions.
