Creating Gender Sensitivity and Awareness about Sexual Harassment
January 13, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Receiving no sex education in school and totally sculpted by society we grow into adults with societal ideals of the self and others. It is extremely important to talk about things like sexual harassment openly with the other sex to know their perceptions about it.
Ashwini Syed, our Training Manager, conducted a gender sensitivity and sexual harassment workshop at Lala Lajpatrai College for the NSS students on 13th Jan, 2017 for a mixed batch of 60 students.
Though we went through our usual content, this workshop was a little different. The girls seemed shy and embarrassed to talk about experiences of sexual harassment whereas the boys opened up and told us of incidents they had witnessed in crowded places and trains.
We spoke about safe and unsafe places, precautions, the difference between gender and sex, the constituents of sexual harassment, the sections in the Indian Penal Code, FIR and Consent.
At the end of the workshop it was great to see a few of them come forward to appreciate Ashwini and to express their interest in volunteering to create awareness in their own ways.
