On 25th July, 2015 Safecity and Buzzify are hosting a safety sprawl in Delhi University!
Block your dates right now, and attend the first ever safety sprawl in Delhi.

What’s a Safety Sprawl, you ask? It’s an exciting group activity in which we work together to evaluate and improve the safety of our streets by identifying and reporting on the broken systems. The Sprawl is an amazing opportunity to put on your detective hat and have fun while contributing to a safer city!Step 1: The group will meet at a central spot, and then be broken into teams. Each team will be assigned to a different street around Delhi University.

Step 2: Teams will take a half hour to uncover the safety profile of their assigned street by mapping any characteristics that make the street feel unsafe. For example, you might mark broken street lights or lack of signs, note construction zones and abandoned buildings, and/or interview local people about their experiences with harassment.

Step 3: We’ll come together at our meet up point, discuss what we found, and put the data together to hand it over to the Police depending on the findings. The last time Safecity did this, the local police actually changed their route – making sure that the key safety concerns were addressed!

We’ll also hand over the data to the local municipal corporations, and use Safecity’s open-source mapping tool to make the harassment hazards open to the public.

Then, of course, we’ll enjoy chai, snacks, and laughter together as we loiter for some time!

We will meet outside St. Stephen’s College at 6:00pm. Make sure to be on time, as we’ll quickly break into groups and head out to take on the city!
After the Sprawl, we’ll meet at Hudson Line to discuss our experiences and aggregate our data over some tasty snacks and coffee.
We’ll wrap things up by 8pm.
