Analysis of perpetrator psychology at Patna Women’s College
Naina Jha conducted a workshop for the students of the Department of Sociology, Patna Women’s College on 29th July. The workshop was attended by 200 girls. The workshop commenced by asking questions like what makes them feel safe/unsafe and what precautions do they take to stay safe. The responses included having mobile phones, keeping pepper spray in the bag, etc. But interestingly, none of the girls carried pepper spray to college on the day of the workshop.
The concepts of gender, sex, etc were also discussed. Sexual harassment and its types were also explained with examples. Perpetrator psychology was discussed at length which included discussing what encourages a perpetrator to harass you more. This was followed by explaining the laws and legislations concerning sexual harassment, FIR and our rights. Naina explained to students what consent means and that it is a broad topic consisting of much more than just physical consent. The girls were then told about the Safecity app and its benefits. The Question-Answer session dealt with the topic of how to protect oneself if the abuser is within or close to family.
