Breaking the Taboo on Puberty and Menstruation
Our Youth Outreach Officer at Delhi, Vanshika Deswal along with Kajal Antil, Campus Ambassador from SBS, organised an awareness workshop on Puberty and Menstruation on 10th December 2018. This was conducted at a community in Majnu Ka Tila along with fellows from Teach For India. It was attended by almost 30 women and girls of the community.
The crowd was very interactive and wanted to know how they could help break taboos in their own homes. The conversation went on around Puberty, Menstruation, Menstrual Hygiene and taboos around it. Through the different activities played in the groups, women shared stories of when they had their first period.
Post the workshop, one of the students in the school organised a get together at a temple in their community and discussed about taboos around Menstruation. It was a breakthrough step as they broke the age old tradition that menstruating women should not enter temples.
