Celebrating our First Foundation Day
Safecity started off as a project in response to a horrific incident that took place in Delhi in December 2012.
We observed over the next 1 year that there was a need for a platform where women and girls should share their experiences on sexual violence without being judged and where they could find solidarity with others. And so the decision to make Safecity a concrete entity was taken in Dec 2013.
However as with all good things in life, the registration process took us almost a year. We had to choose between a Society, Trust and a Sec 25 company. We chose the Sec 25 company route and during our application process it changed to Sec 8.
Almost 11 months after we started the process, on 3 November 2014, we were finally registered as RED DOT FOUNDATION that works at the intersection of gender, equality, technology, community and justice.
Last year we were a team of 2 full time staff and today we have grown to 4 full time staff, 3 interns and several extremely dedicated volunteers apart from ElsaMarie and Supreet.
We are in the process of building our advisory board and currently have Aileen Marques who is an esteemed High Court lawyer specializing in Human Rights Law and Holly Kearl who is the Founder of Stop Street Harassment.
We are extremely grateful to all those who have supported us on our journey thus far. We are growing and if you wish to be part of our movement, do drop us a line on [email protected]
