Climate Change from a Gendered Perspective
On 5th July Yashorma Sandal @Yashorma1 conducted a Tweetchat on – “Climate Change from a Gendered Perspective”
The chat began by asking about the biggest threats that climate change poses to us, as humans. The audience gave examples of threats like water depletion, declining livelihood security, loss and damage due to various natural calamities, biodiversity loss, etc. The next topic of discussion was about the impact of climate change on different genders. The audience responded that women play a major role in accumulating resources like water supply, energy for heating, etc. and climate changes can make this more difficult for women. The guests were later asked to share their experiences of how and in what intensity climate change is observed in their work. The curator asked the audience for suggestions to mainstream the gender perspective into climate change. The audience provided suggestions like shifting of mindsets from discriminating social attitudes towards women, providing awareness and education, raising livelihood opportunities, etc. The chat ended by asking the audience what can they do to initiate climate action individually or collectively.
