Explaining puberty to students of G. D. Secondary Boys School
Naina Jha conducted a workshop for the students of G. D. Secondary Boys School in collaboration with Kahanighar on the 27th of July. It was attended by 120 boys. The topic discussed in the workshop was ‘Puberty’.
The workshop was commenced by asking what is puberty. Most of the students had no clue about it. However, they were aware of terms like childhood, teenage, etc. So, the meaning of puberty was explained to them. The students were initially hesitant to talk about puberty and bodily changes since this was the first time they were addressing this topic. But later, when they were assured that puberty is just a phase of life and there’s nothing to be ashamed about it, they slowly joined in the discussion.
The psychological changes related to puberty were also discussed, which the students found relatable. The students also shared their perspectives on the topic. The workshop ended with an overview of what sexual harassment is and how we intentionally or unintentionally support the harassment culture. In fact, two boys shared their experience of helping a girl who was being harassed.
