Dreams and Pride on National Girl Child Day 2019
On the occasion of National Girl Child Day on 24th January 2019, Safecity Campus Ambassadors planned a visit to the Bachyion Ka Ghar Orphanage near Jama Masjid, Old Delhi. The intent was to meet with the young girls, and talk to them about their dreams and ask them why they were happy to be a girl. The purpose behind was to generate a spark of happiness and a sense of pride attached to their own sex, which is directly or indirectly subjected to prejudices since an early age.
While the younger girls were still grappling with discovering themselves and understanding their thoughts across the whole gender-difference issue, the girls who were a few years older could eloquently present their passionate views. After establishing a rapport it was easy to start conversations with them about future aspirations and joys of being a girl.
By the end of the visit, the girls were gifted with Safecity postcards and a few pamphlets. The visit was successful because the children were thrilled being a part of the videos and had a lot of fun, which is one of the primary goals to achieve, especially on this day dedicated to them.
