Emerging Leaders : Sabah Batul
Safecity is celebrating the journey of people who have emerged as leaders as our campaigns progressed in their communities through our blog series “Safecity Emerging Leaders“. Read the inspiring stories of these individuals who are passionate about making their neighbourhoods safer with Safecity and have taken action in their own special ways.
Sabah Batul provides services as a content writer at an ad-agency. She loves to write, and explore social issues via her poetry. She volunteers at other NGOs, as she believes in being the change she wants to see. Sabah has volunteered at Safecity, as it is the Justice League of our time -who makes sure justice is served to the ill-treated! With the League, she helps people fight for their rights and lead a better life.
Safecity Emerging Leader : Sabah Batul
My name is Sabah Batul. I study Dentistry and also an aspiring writer and blogger. While my studies and passion did take up all my time I still wanted to contribute in some way and be a part of something that would let me stand up for what I believe in.
You see harassment, inequality and submission to violence every day. The hapless common people are usually clueless of either their rights or their power. But Safecity is the voice of the unheard and the stance of justice.
I heard about them through a friend who had volunteered for them earlier and I had read their blogs. The fire and confidence in their stories were truly inspirational! I applied quickly, and they graciously accepted my application.
When I started working with them I was given the responsibility of handling social media or to be precise, their Instagram account. I was excited to put in my time into something meaningful. But I didn’t have the faintest clue about how much I would learn and gain from this venture I had embarked on.
Their social media platform was used beautifully to spread awareness. They conducted workshops -went to schools, towns, and offices and told people about their rights, explained to them about the law and how they can end the dishonourable behaviour they thought they had to bear! Their Legal round tables were a portal to a realization that the power of change belongs to each one!
Then, to add on to their superpowers, the Safecity app was launched. It was to ‘break the silence’, and report those impudent criminals who walked away otherwise. The love it received was excellent! Many great men and women shared their thoughts about the app and people tweeted about it on our Safecity tweetchats.
They are recognized and growing. And I know they are going to change and touch many more lives, much like they are doing right now. And in the short time, I have worked with them, I have learned plenty. And I never thought I would be impacted so deeply, by a cause I cared for so much!
The stories I shared of the people Safecity had influenced were heart-warming and inciting! And now I am ecstatic that I have a similar opportunity. Safecity is my answer to doing something bigger than my existence. I am really proud and happy to say I am a part of their motivational journey! I will always remember what I learned here, and make sure their cycle of support and guidance does not end with me.
