Field report of community visit to Gauri Shankar Enclave III
Safecity is partnering with Nav Shrishti to reach out to various communities in Delhi creating awareness about sexual harassment.
“On 2nd August, 2018, I visited a community in Delhi. The community constitutes of people who have grown up there or in neighbouring areas and moved to Gauri Shankar Enclave due to marriage, employment, etc. I had the chance of speaking to four women who are part of a group working toward the development of the community. After explaining to them about Safecity and the need for workshops to raise awareness, I also explained that they could, in turn, use the training to create awareness amongst others. The people agreed to help me collect physical copies of reports as they felt it was necessary for women to speak out about their personal stories of harassment especially in an area that is plagued with gender based violence and other crimes.
On 6th August, I went back to the community accompanied by the social worker from Nav Srishti. We met the entire group called the ‘Sarva Chetna Samuha Committee’. To my surprise, the group leader was a man fighting for women’s rights in the community. The four women were a part of the meeting where everyone shared stories of crimes that have happened in the community, and how they deal with it. They usually try to work and help people on their own, but in extreme situations, they seek external help.”
