Pin the creeps in Nepal
Safecity has collaborated with Social Empowerment by Empowering Women (SEEW), based in Nepal; they are actively working on aggregating data in Kathmandu to lobby for safer, accessible and a better public transport system for women. They have already collected more than 500 personal stories of harassment and abuse in public spaces and are in the process of scaling their movement. To render support to this campaign, you can write to us on [email protected]
Their ongoing campaign is called the “Pink Bus” project. SEEW wants to assist in minimizing sexual harassment in Public Transport for women and girls and assist through the ‘Pink Bus Project’ to mitigate and solve the harassment in Public Transports; especially because almost Thirty one per cent (31%) (SEEW Research 2014) of the cases reported to SEEW involved are/were related to abuse/s in public transport, especially buses.
The Contributions will initiate a unique commute system where the Driver, conductor and passengers will all be women which will be an overwhelming effort for women/girls using public transport that will provide a ‘sexual harassment free’ form of transport system which will be one of its kind in Nepal. This initiative will deprive sex starved males from fondling and touching females unnecessarily and free the females of the psychological trauma of such embarrassments and harassment.
