Housing Crisis and how it affects children
On Friday 3rd August, Leher @LeherIndia conducted a tweetchat about the housing crisis and the adverse effects it has on children.
Mass evictions and migrations world over are leaving children homeless and vulnerable. The chat began by asking participants how they, as a community, could come together to ensure housing for all children through examples. They were also asked to share how children and young people can be involved or participate in ensuring their right to a home. Evictions in the name of development have become common practice, having long-term effects on children. The audience was asked what message they could collectively give out to the government, builders, smart city planners and urban thinkers so that children are not at the forefront of the brunt of unequal housing plans. The curator then asked for suggestions on way through which we can ensure that all children have a safe and secure home & environment to live in and the possible policy and advocacy changes needed to ensure that the #HousingForAll agenda is fulfilled by 2020 in the true sense, including children in its mandate.
