Impact of Climate Change and Climate Action on Women’s Safety and Life
On 23rd of February, Raakhee Suryaprakash @10sunshinegal conducted a tweetchat on “Impact of Climate Change and Climate Action on Women’s Safety and Life”.
We had panelists Anuja Sawant @anujasaw, Fariha Fatima @fatma_sultana and Renee Karunungan @rjkarunungan part of the tweetchat.
Over exploitation of natural resources have become rampant nowadays and their effects have severely impacted women. The tweet chat began with how the visibility in the gender gap in climate panels can be bridged. Speakers in and outside the country participated in this discussion and brought to light the reality regarding the complete disregard for unequal women representation which was highly thought provoking. While it is women who possess the art of sustainable resource management, still the existing gender inequalities continue to prevail in the environmental sphere. Women are not given the power to take their decisions independently and there also exist certain barriers which hinder their participation largely. Many solutions and policies were brought in, which, if implemented properly could help in paving these inequalities. They should be given the opportunity to be a part of the law-making process.
