Know Our Team – Pursuing Social Work

Mona is a Program and Outreach Officer with us and manages the campaigns in Pune. She writes about how she was inspired to pursue a career in Social Work and later with us.

Hey everyone! I am Mona V More and currently based in Pune. I have been an independent person as long as I can remember and loved to live life on my own terms. But It wasn’t too late that I realised being a girl is really not easy. There was a lot of social pressure which made me doubt myself, as if being my authentic self was not right, despite of my parents being supportive. 

So when I was in college, I had an opportunity to become an Engineer, but I decided to do Bachelors in Social Science. I was inspired to do more on this front and so I completed my Masters in Social Work(MSW), Child Psychology. Besides academics, I already began to work in my field, identifying the problems of the people; of women, children, elders, and other marginalised groups. I volunteered for various organisations during my masters, focusing on dynamics like Education, Sanitation, Domestic Violence, Harassment, Gender and had an opportunity to work on an Awareness program with the Police Department. Even when I started working professionally, I never stopped volunteering.

Safecity has been a unique experience because of the freedom it gave while working; to explore, learn new things and leading different campaigns. Working along with a team which has always been with me come whatever may, Safecity is more than a team; a family, who works together, walks together, enjoys together, and moves forward by holding each others’ hand. I feel I am blessed to be part of this wonderful journey with Safecity.
