Life After Sexual Harassment at the Workplace
On Friday 28th July, Raakhee Suryaprakash, @10sunshinegal, conducted a tweetchat on Life After Sexual Harassment at the Workplace talking about therapy and rehabilitation.
The chat focused on aiding and helping survivors of workplace harassment through the trauma of it and to help them get back to a normal life. To begin with, Raakhee helped the participants list the different coping mechanisms that survivors could embrace including art therapy, dance therapy, counselling etc. They then spoke about knowing and finding counsellors that were qualified to address issues like gender-based violence and workplace harassment. As individuals, Raakhee reiterated the importance of recognizing harassment, offering help if we see someone being harassed and being a witness if needed. While speaking about ensuring the victim/survivor justice the participants discussed whether 3 months was too short a time for them to gather up the courage to speak about the harassment and whether it could be extended. Bringing the chat to an end, the participants spoke about the support a survivor needed to stay mentally strong through the course of getting justice from the slow moving judiciary and/or the institutional mechanism to deal with workplace harassment.
