On 25th January 2019, ahead of Repulic Day, Raakhee Suryaprakash @10sunshinegal conducted a tweetchat on ‘Limited Participation of #WomenInPolitics and how to encourage more #IndianWomenInPolitics”
The tweetchat began by asking the audience what were the various barriers to a woman entering politics. Raakhee spoke about the 73rd & 74th Constitutional Amendments which provide for 33 percent reservation for women in Panchayat & Nagarpalika. The audience shared some success stories of such women leaders who are powerful agents of change in their villages, towns and grassroots organizations. Raakhee also questioned the audience whether the Women’s Reservation Bill if passed in the Lok Sabha would ensure better representation of women in the Parliament of India. The chat ended by asking the audience to share solutions as citizens to get the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in the Lok Sabha before the Indian General Elections of 2019.
