Mental Heath -SDG 3
Last week, our curator Bhani Rachel Bali (@KashmiriKudi) Creater and Co-Founder of KrantiKali, held a TweetChat about Mental Health in relation to SDG 3- Good Health and Well-being. She highlighted the mental health concerns of the women in India. A lack of awareness and acceptance from society and the stigma attached to being mentally ill emerged as the major concerns. Many women spoke about the way they were alienated from society just because they were different. The sad fact that women in rural India had no access to medical facilities to cope with mental illness was highlighted. This brought into focus the inadequacy of mental health facilities. Rachel also spoke about the challenges in the implementation of India’s new mental health bill while hoping for a better future for mental health treatment with the use of technology. We had a variety of participants from different backgrounds of mental health and feminist issues leading to a vibrant discussion.
