Ortner Center at the University of Pennsylvania

Safecity and the Ortner Center at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) are collaborating to document the scope, nature, and impact of street harassment.

Our goal is to understand who experiences harassment, what the harassment looks like, how women respond to harassment, and how all of these things together are related to women’s participation in public life. The crowd-sourced data will help us understand harassment’s effect on civic engagement. We aim to make the findings useful for people concerned about their safety, community organisations, law enforcement agencies, and policy makers.
