Annual youth forum “NGAGE – Next Gen Advocates of Gender Equity” organized by Durga India, is taking place on the 10th – 12th of December 2021. Durga is a social sector organization working on a multi-pronged approach towards creating gender-inclusive spaces in India.
This program aims to sensitize youth and assist them in taking cognizance of prevalent biases in multiple sections of our society, harness their collective potential for the greater good of their personal and wider circles, and engage in conversations (that involves agreement and dissent) with respect for one another and the Constitution. NGAGE will enable key stakeholders from social and development sectors in utilizing this thought-provoking platform to encourage meaningful dialogue and make conscious efforts to deter sexual harassment in public spaces and create safer spaces for all.
This 3-day initiative by Durga India will host and address a gathering of over a minimum of 3000 participants, ranging from students, social activists and personalities involved in the development sector from across India and the world.

Polycom was started in response to the sexual violence and exploitation faced by young girls in Kibera informal settlement in Nairobi. There was a particular case when a 39 year old man had a sexual relationship with an 11 year old girl that spurred the organisation’s founder, Jane Anyango, into action. She wanted to help girls to understand that they need to take care of their bodies until they are ready. She started by educating girls to understand themselves and make informed decisions concerning their lives, particularly their bodies. The organization was later registered as Polycom Development Project (PDP).
Polycom is located in Kibera informal settlement, working with 50 schools to reach out to adolescent girls and 5 organized groups to reach out to girls who are not in school. Our work is summarized under one word “G-PENDE”(which means to love yourself). It is about promoting self-worthiness and appreciation among girls. The programmes have recently been extended to include out of school girls and young women aged 16 to 25 years. Every year, Polycom recruits fresh school leavers as volunteers who are trained on psycho-social support to carry out school counselling sessions and to oversee the G-Pende safe space sessions.
Polycom Development Project is our Safecity partner in Kenya.

The Uncommon Box (TUB), a pannier with uncommon stuff from our very own common surroundings. We generally say that things around us are common, but we forget that the uncommon and exceptional comes from the common itself. Everything in this world whether it’s nature, people or society is unique in its own way or has their own speciality; it’s just the matter of realizing and appreciating it. We are here with our thoughts which are picked up from the common setting. We believe in that special or uncommon which is hidden or unnoticed in our routine hectic life.
