Reproductive Mental Health- SDG 3
Naina Jha, @27nainajha, a PR Professional, avid learner who works for the education of slum kids hosted our TweetChat last Friday discussing reproductive mental health. She chose a topic which usually is hushed up and not known to many- Depression during and post pregnancy. She broached issues like femicide, social pressures, finances, illnesses as some of the factors that cause anxiety and depression in expecting mothers which they do not share with others often for fear of it being ridiculed and so depression is normalised as part of the process. She pointed out the fact that many don’t even know about post natal depression & pregnancy depression and even educated ones fail to understand. A positive environment and support system play a huge role in ensuring both the mother and the child a healthy life. Awareness and increasing dialogue can help create better understanding of the issue and create better, happier conditions for mothers.
