Safecity Safety Champion – Arushi Choudhary
I had come across this campaign on Internshala and I was really interested in the objectives of this platform. Being someone who has had her fair share of experiences since my teenage years, I always wanted to share my experiences with someone who had faced something similar. Sexual assault, harassment, inappropriate public behaviour are sensitive topics for me and as I grew up, I wanted people to have a platform where they could share their experiences without feeling judged. So being a part of this hit home. During this internship, I learnt that sometimes it is difficult to talk about experiences even when your identity is not being revealed. Things that have happened to someone in the past, still have a lasting impact and some learn to live with it but narrating it after so long takes a lot of strength. I have utmost respect and appreciation for each and every person who showed the courage to actually report their stories on this platform and I hope they find peace in knowing that their experiences made someone feel safe enough to share theirs. I hope that people visiting this platform feel like these experiences may have shaped them to be the person they are but they do not define them.
