Sexual Harassment in Universities and Colleges

Sexual harassment in colleges and universities is an issue which needs to be addressed more often. Many times, victims stay silent as they fear for their future. Even if they come forth to share their horrific experiences, they are made to keep mum in the name of the University’s reputation. The need of the hour is to break the silence. We need to advocate and implement ways which hold the perpetrators accountable. Community policing and stringent college authorities will ensure stronger consequences for perpetrators and lesser focus on victims. Victims should be provided emotional and moral support and simultaneously, a firm legal action must be taken. Silence is never the answer to harassment and as a society, we must focus on a cultural mindset shift which makes such issues less taboo and offer viable opinions, solutions and discourses to address harassment with greater sensitivity.
