Beating Air Pollution
On 7th June 2019, Yashorma Sandal @Yashorma1 conducted a Tweetchat on “Beating Air Pollution”
The chat began by discussing the theme of Environment Day by the United Nations. In 2018, the theme was “beat plastic pollution” and this year it is “beat air pollution”. The audiences were asked their opinions about this year’s theme. The audience responded that this theme is profoundly significant as the quality of ambient air is degrading at a fast rate which in turn has a direct impact on physical and mental health of all living creatures. The spiked rate of air pollution in regions like Delhi was highlighted and the audience discussed “The Great Smog of Delhi” which occurred in December 2017. The next topic of discussion was the Sustainable Development Goals established in 2015 which has a goal – SDG-13 specifically to combat climate change. The audience shared their suggestions on how individuals can help combat climate change. The chat proceeded to discuss about two types of air pollution- invisible and visible air pollution and how can we reduce their effects. The chat ended by asking the audience to share stories of individuals or groups who are working towards reducing air pollution and its effects on the environment.
