Know Our Team: Cementing Connections Across Borders
Know Our Team is a series that attempts to bring to you the stories of our team, share our experiences, why we do what we do and special moments that have left an indelible mark in each of our lives.
Nneka Edwards is an entrepreneur, a full-time Coordinator for a University and a part-time Consultant for Red Dot Foundation Global. She believes in the quote “Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them” – unknown.
Nneka Edwards met Elsa D’Silva at the home of a mutual friend and Safecity board member, Suzanne Lea in the fall of 2016. Elsa and Suzanne had just completed a Peace Fellowship with the Rotary in Thailand and their creative energy was infectious. Elsa described in detail the work Safecity does in the world. Imagining having a global impact thrilled Nneka. In her eyes, Safecity is an organization that both empowers while serving to protect women and communities. What an amazing enterprise! From that day forward, Nneka felt compelled to find her own way to push the Safecity initiative forward. Over the next several months, she periodically checked in with Suzanne and Elsa to see if there was any way she could assist Safecity.
In early 2017, Nneka’s opportunity to make an impact through Safecity came. Red Dot Foundation Global (Red Dot) was created to be Safecity’s U.S. based counterpart. Ms. Edwards is a business professional with more than 10 years’ experience in project coordination. Establishing this new entity gave Nneka space to help set-up Red Dot’s organizational foundation. Her business background and administrative prowess lead to the creation of her contract position with Red Dot. She handles anything and everything the board members throw at her. Nneka’s specialty lies in her ability to meet objectives by connecting people across disciplines. This skill comes in handy when work is being done across country borders. For example, Nneka was instrumental in getting the Safecity app launched as she coordinated efforts with Amazon Web Services in America and the Information Technology firm in India. She also works with the American banks to process donations properly.
She continues to work with board members, banks, and the IT department to ensure that Safecity Red Dot continues to thrive. Throughout all of Safecity everyone moves with focus and are all encouraged by the impact they make together. For Nneka, being a part of the Safecity/Red Dot Foundation team is reward and motivation to create the changes that we wish for.
