POSH Workshop at Vaishali Tai’s Classes
Our Youth Outreach Officer, Mona More, conducted a POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Workshop on November 18, 2019, near Karale Class for an Anganwadi of 35 women, aged from 15 to 65 years.
On one of her earlier home visits to spread awareness about safety, Mona had met Vaishali Karale Tai, who is a very active member of her community. Vaishali Tai takes classes for students in the community. She runs a Self-Help Group and is involved in many social activities.
After learning about Safecity, Vaishali Tai committed to gathering women and girls for the session. First, Mona conducted an introduction in order to make everyone feel comfortable during the session. Post introduction, a discussion about the safety of women began. We received a response that females are constantly subjected to harassment, hence they are not safe. We told them about our organisation Safecity and the Safecity App. The women were taught how to download the App, report instances of Sexual Harassment and mark unsafe public spaces. We received a lot of questions, following which a long discussion went on where they discussed sexual harassment and how to prevent it.
To express gratitude for the session, the women gave blessings. The women requested Mona to come to their community more frequently so that they can make their community safer with the help of Safecity. Some women are not tech-savvy and find it difficult to use a cellphone. Hence, we came up with the idea of putting up a box where women can anonymously put up their complaints/ideas related to sexual harassment prevention.
