Safe Campus Program- Red Dot Foundation with The Government of Canada
In keeping with our mission & constant endeavour to create Safe Public Spaces and to spread awareness & advocate gender equality & prevention of sexual violence; in the month of September, Red Dot Foundation together with the Government of Canada commenced a six month ‘Safe Campus Program’ with 20 colleges in Maharashtra.
5 students shall be identified from each college to be ‘Youth Leaders’ who would undergo a 3-day workshop conducted by RDF. The workshop will focus on sensitizing them, particularly on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Faculty and administration would also be trained on the POSH & POCSO Acts.
The training would also cover a Leadership course on:
- Communication & listening skills
- Building empathy, use of social media
- Creating a project plan for Campus Ambassadors
- The use of the Safe-city App for audits and collection of crowdsourced data.
These young leaders shall further go on to be Ambassadors and Active Citizens in taking up civic projects as part of the RDF alumni network.
Although we have faced many challenges along the way, our perseverance & driving force to move forward comes from the belief in the impact and transformation that this program will create. Hence, our teams from Satara, Pune & Mumbai, working on this project, are very motivated & excited & cannot wait for mid-November when we go into full throttle with the Safe Campus Program!
Stay tuned for more updates!
